A friend of mine told me, when he was informed, that we plan to self-drive overland in India:

In India they have

3 sides of driving:

the right side......     

the left side ...

and the suicide..... !"

They drive where-ever they want and you drive where-ever you want - its basically free driving! 

 

without any really existing rules - JUST BE VERY CAREFUL and a good Co-Pilot helps a lot "!

Avoid maybe driving at night, it dangerous because not only that they use no mirrors also light is on the cars specially trucks are a luxury which not all are using !
