Driving in Austria is basically safe!
you should be aware of traffic signs, as we are having the most in the world - and very complicated to read, especially our have parking rules - can be costly, if you do not speak and understand german !
we are a police controlled country and these guys need to make money for our state - be aware !!
Still: Police can be friendly but in most cases they are arrogant and only want to fine you......, just always be friendly to them, than maybe you can enjoy some liberty !!!
most locals follow more to the rules - and even loose control over safety.
Be aware: Rules are not guaranteeing always safety !
Better look and drive carefully, before you only follow traffic rules !
Austrian drivers are good drivers - in Vienna sometimes not friendly and will teach you rules before they are helping ! Sorry to tell, but its mainly the truth !
it is one of our "home-countries" we know it quite detailed in all facets - even "speed-gun" places, but better... secret restaurants and places only a "few" are allowed to go, as it is a special character of our country, that you are not allowed to drive all roads in general...in forests, mountains etc its mostly restricted and heavily controlled....
anyway - roads and trips to show, is for us not difficult, we are happy to help for your requests and will try to be helpful with ideas and suggestions
